With an active license key, Darkify Pro updates exactly like any other plugin — a notice appears under Plugins, and one click installs it. The free version updates straight from WordPress.org.
Update from your dashboard #
- Go to Dashboard → Updates or Plugins.
- Find Darkify in the list. If an update is waiting, you will see an “Update now” link.
- Click it. WordPress installs the new version and reactivates the plugin automatically.
Your settings are preserved through every update. Nothing needs to be reconfigured.
No update notice appearing? It nearly always means the license key is inactive or expired. Open Darkify → License and confirm the badge reads Active. If it does, click Check again under Dashboard → Updates to force WordPress to refresh its update cache.
Update manually #
If you prefer to replace the files yourself:
- Download the latest
darkify-pro.zipfrom My Account → Downloads. - Deactivate and delete the current Darkify Pro plugin. Deleting a plugin does not delete its settings unless you enabled “Clean-up Data on Deletion” under Tools.
- Upload and activate the new ZIP.
- Confirm your license is still active.
Before you update a live site #
- Take a backup — your host’s snapshot tool or a plugin like UpdraftPlus is fine.
- Export your Darkify settings from Darkify → Tools → Download Backup. It is a single JSON file.
- If you run a staging site, update there first.
- Clear your caching plugin and CDN after updating, so visitors receive the new assets.

What happens when a license expires #
Nothing breaks. Dark mode keeps running exactly as configured, and your settings stay intact. You stop receiving new versions and support until the license is renewed, at which point updates resume immediately.
